Biarritz, France

We are Camille and Antonin, two people who call the Pays Basque home, where the mountains meet the sea, and the rhythm of life is steeped in the great outdoors. Even in the colder months, when the weather allows, it’s easy to enjoy beautiful rides like the one we are sharing with you here.

Our route started at Côte des Basques in Biarritz, an iconic beach famous for its surf scene and stunning views of the ocean. From there, we followed the coastline to Bidart, stopping to admire the breathtaking scenery at Erretegia Beach, a peaceful spot surrounded by nature.

In Bidart’s village center, we checked out the lively market and passed by the fronton, where locals play pelote basque, a traditional sport that’s an essential part of Basque culture.

Throughout this section of the ride, La Rhune was always in view. This mountain is a landmark in the region, and we love hiking and trail running there when we are not cycling.

Continuing south, we reached Guéthary, a picturesque fishing village. The views here are incredible, and Parlementia, the surf spot, is a favourite for its world-class waves.

Next, we rode along La Corniche, a dramatic cliffside road leading to Ciboure. We made a quick stop at our favorite café Sweet Pea, which is known for its great coffee and pastries, though it happened to be closed this time.

Turning inland on the return to Biarritz, we passed the historic Moulin de Bassilour in Bidart, a mill that has stood since 1741, where they make a delicious gâteau basque. It is worth stopping here to try this traditional pastry.

Back in Biarritz, we wrapped up the ride with a well-deserved cappuccino and banana bread at Loky, our favourite local coffee shop.

We would like to thank Antonin and Camille for taking the time to share what it is like to ride in and around the city of Biarritz. You can connect with them and the places they visited below:
